Internationally Trained Dentist (ITD) Program

University of Detroit Mercy seeks applicants to join the Class of 2029 in an advanced standing. Successful applicants will start as D2 students on May 18, 2026. Students will be required to report to campus prior to this date for orientation.

Eligibility
Applicants must hold a dental degree from a dental school outside of the U.S. or Canada. Applicants do not have to be U.S. citizens or permanent residents, but must be able to obtain a visa that makes them eligible for the duration of their studies. Applicants must pass NBDE Part I and II or INBDE. Applicants must score 100 on the TOEFL (iBT test), with a 25 in each subsection.

Applicants selected for an in-person interview will be required to travel to Detroit, at their expense, for an assessment of hand skills along with their actual interview.

Three (3) letters of support are required. One must be from the dean of the dental school that you previously attended. The other two must be non-relative dentists who are practicing in the U.S. or Canada.
All letters must have official school letterhead with a date and signature. If you are unable to obtain a letter please let us know why.

You will receive a link to pay your non-refundable application fee of $900.00 USD. If accepted, there is a non-refundable deposit of $3,500.00 USD, which will be applied to your tuition upon matriculation. All documents must be received in order for your application to be considered for admission.

Please note: If accepted, all matriculants must submit to a comprehensive background check, meet our pre-matriculation standards.
