| Is your group a community-based organization? If yes, we’d love to hear a little about what you do. | UNI is a youth community based organization in Southwest Detroit. We have a cradle to career focus, starting our work with after-school tutoring in several elementary schools working to both improve attendance and raise literacy rates. At 14-24, we have youth workforce program that helps youth both prepare for the workplace and for college. As part of that program we do an intensive summer work program and provide year round opportunities for students to stay involved on our pathway programs(which include a mural arts team, green team, organizing team, quality assessment team, food cultivators team and a bike shop). Our model is based on one to one coaching and a series of career readiness workshops and activities- along with work based experience. Part of that is college access. We also have an alumni network that continues to support our youth through college with coaching, mentoring, scholarship funds and support services, as well as job coaching when they are looking for internships or a career after graduation. |
